How to Clean a Fujitsu Scanner

Please note this post is about a specific fi-7160 Fujitsu Scanner. Your Fujitsu scanner might be a different model, but it should be similar in many respects.
It’s really a simple concept that you need to understand. Imagine that you wear glasses (if you don’t). Your glasses need to be cleaned daily to see properly. They get dust and smudges and so on. There are lenses inside your scanner that need to be cleaned often for good performance. Merely taking a swab and a pad cleaner from the Scanaid cleaning kit and wiping down lenses, pads, rollers, etc. every so often will keep your scanner in top form, and it might take you all of 30 to 60 seconds!

You’ll be glad you did the maintenance because:

1. You’ll get great, trouble-free performance from your scanner

2. You will get the sharpest, best scans to archive

3. You won’t need to look foolish putting in a support ticket about crappy scans

4. You won’t be in trouble with the boss over crappy scans

Let’s get started. Check your model and get the proper Scanaid cleaning kit from Fujitsu. (You can actually do this with a proper cleaner fluid, a soft cloth, and cotton swabs in a pinch).

We can’t stress the statement above more. Depending on the types of paper you use, you may need to clean your scanner everyday. The good news is a wipe down takes about 60 seconds at most, and you’re good to go again! If you don’t do the cleaning, your scans will degrade and become un-readable. Now you’re in trouble with the boss because you may have shredded the originals. So do it. Just take a moment a day to clean at least your lenses.
